„Tools to improve your musicality | Elements of mindfulness“
The connection between a musician and their instrument is something very special and unique. A deep relationship can only develop through passionate dedication and experience.
Elements such as groove, emotion and the inner „having something to say“ are fundamental to how you approach your instrument. This of course applies to the handpan as well as any other instrument. In this workshop, Kabeção shares his experiences and tools to develop musicality and open you up to new ways to improve your playing and practicing in the long term.
Masterclass: Laurent Sureau
Next Level: Composing with chords and time signatures
Workshop with Laurent Sureau
In this intensive workshop, the Handpan legend Laurent Sureau invites you to to deepen your musical understanding and consciously develop your playing. The aim is not only to play the handpan, but also to to make it sound through yourself - with clarity, intention and expression.
The workshop begins with a joint warm-up and a short round of introductions in which the participants' expectations and personal goals are discussed. Building on this, the focus is on a deeper understanding of the instrument: how can you specifically influence the sound, resonance and dynamics to create a fuller, clearer sound?
A particular focus is on the Use of the voice - melodically, harmonically and rhythmically. The voice serves as an inner compass to consciously guide musical impulses, phrasing and intention before they are transferred to the handpan.
As you progress, you explore the harmonic possibilities of the D-Kurd handpan. Various chord combinations are introduced and embedded in a common compositional idea. Building on this, you will work on Chord progressions and develops a musical sequence from it.
A central component of the workshop is the rhythmic composition in harmony with the harmonic context. You experiment with binary and ternary structures and - depending on the level of the group - with different time signatures and rhythmic signatures.
Advanced and technical aspects such as Touch quality, finger guidance, resonance control and playful tricks are incorporated individually into the workshop and adapted to the different approaches and experience levels of the participants.
This workshop is aimed at handpan players with previous experience who want to expand their compositional thinking, refine their musical language and take their playing to a new level.

Direction: Petra Kleinecke, HandPanDance
Petra loves to convey the language of music: improvising, expressing herself, experiencing flow. For her, this is the essence of making music. Latin percussion and leading a samba group led her to study music education. In 2017, she finally discovered the handpan - an invitation to creativity and expression. Since then, she has increasingly focused her musical and pedagogical work on this instrument.
She deliberately decided to develop a solo program without electronic effects for her concerts. She wants to let natural vibrations have their effect in their intensity. Her pieces reflect different moods, from calm and spherical to rhythmic and danceable. A special feature are songs from the Singing Circle, which she performs instrumentally on the handpan or sings together with the audience.
As a handpan teacher - in Bremen and online - she helps people to develop their musicality with joy and ease. Appreciative and in small steps, she conveys confidence in one's own abilities so that playing the handpan can become a valuable resource in everyday life.
You can take part in the workshop even with little playing experience. I teach in German, the workshop lasts 2 hours. D Kurds will be provided. If you have any questions about the content, you can contact me via my website www.handpandance.de contact.

Workshop: Jam-Together with Leander Greitemann
Workshop: TakeTina - Rhythm for Evolution
In TaKeTiNa, the body itself is the instrument.
You enter into a repetitive basic movement - simple steps, carried by the heartbeat of the bass drum. Clapping patterns and chants are woven over this, sometimes swinging in unison, sometimes in fascinating rhythmic tension with the basic pulse.
It can happen that you lose your rhythm - and that is precisely the key moment. Here you learn to let go of control and simply let yourself be carried by the collective flow. You find your way back again and again, building up physically anchored rhythmic energy building blocks that work beyond thought.
TaKeTiNa for musicians and amateurs
TaKeTiNa is a journey to the roots of rhythm - in music and in yourself. It is an active meditation that:
- awakens intuition: Open up a new, freer access to your rhythmic potential - beyond notes, technique and pressure - lively, intuitive and deeply connected.
- Creates rhythmic depth: Strengthen your inner timing and your feeling for polyrhythms. The experience of feeling several rhythmic levels at the same time enriches your musical perception enormously.
- Train the flow state: By learning to welcome chaos rhythmically and to always find your way back into the whole, you lose the fear of doing something wrong and cultivate basic trust.
- relieves stress and calms the mind: The rhythmic movement calms the neurovegetative nervous system. The result: more serenity, presence and a deep, nourishing stillness, even during activity.
In the TaKeTiNa process, people with and without previous experience stand side by side. The simple, repetitive movements and chants allow everyone to learn at their own pace - without pressure and without comparisons.
